[A Must Read] The Real Story Behind Lil Kesh, YAGI & YBNL

A lot of stories have been making the rounds ever since Lil Kesh, a protégé of Olamide Baddo (CEO of YBNL) floated his own record label YAGI (Young And Getting It). For Once, we would like to make clear the entire story.
YBNL as a record label was never structured as a core business entity, it was more of a family. One of the core values of the label and its CEO Olamide Baddo was to pick up talents from the streets, nurture their growth into stardom in such a way that someday they get to pick up another talent to grow. This cycle was built to go on and on and this saw to the emergence of Lil Kesh, Viktoh, Adekunle Gold.
These 3 acts got signed into the YBNL family and ever since rose to stardom. They individually signed 2 years contracts, but indeed it was never about the contracts. Olamide wanted to see these 3 men grow.
All glory to God, these men have grown to a level where they could stand on their own. Olamide in his benevolence wasn’t going to tie these young men down as his dream of building young leaders is coming to live. He advised these men at the end of their contracts to start something of their own, build your own empire, as soon as any of them felt strong enough mentally and financially they should pick up talents from the streets and also help them grow.
In light of this, when Lil Kesh’s contract ended, it was just about time to listen to the leader Olamide Baddo as he always does. He floated YAGI, a move which a lot of people misconstrued to mean that he left Olamide Baddo.
In clear terms, Lil Kesh and the entirety of YAGI is a part of YBNL. YBNL is one big umbrella that still oversees the activities of Lil Kesh as an artiste and YAGI as a record label.
Olamide still plays an integral role in the career of the young man Lil Kesh. If there is anything that has changed, it will be the fact that Lil Kesh handles the finance of the brand Lil Kesh and YAGI, but asides that nothing else has changed.
The situation we have here is a good mother and daughter where in this case YBNL is the good mother and YAGI is the daughter. Every good mother wants the growth of her daughter and that’s just exactly what we have here.
As much as possible, we will like the world to know that nothing has and nothing will change between Olamide Baddo and Lil Kesh. At no point in time will Lil Kesh ever be ungrateful to God and Olamide a man who picked him up from the streets.
At a point in time, YAGI will also be looking to have artistes signed under the label as this has always been the dream from inception.
Special appreciation to all the fans of YBNL and YAGI all over the world. We wouldn’t be here without you. Thank you for the love, may God bless you.
So long you work so hard, you Yahoo Boy No Laptop (YBNL), and as much as you getting something from what you do, you Young And Getting it (YAGI).

Davido’s Mayorkun, Tekno, Falz, Don’t Deserve Headies ‘Next Rated’ Award

38 The annual prestigious Nigerian Music Awards the Headies ‘Next Rated‘ category not fit for Mayorkun, Tekno and Falz. The Headies Awards 2015 edition was outright born out of controversies. First, it had to be the rescheduling of the event which rightly ought to be held in 2015, to January 1st 2016. Then the infamous tantrum by YBNL leader Olamide when his protege Lil Kesh failed to pick up the coveted ‘Next Rated’ award. A full blown drama ensued when Don Jazzy – who felt slighted by Olamide’s remarks – sensed the need to address sentiments. The headies fiasco set the turn for the music industry for in 2016. Davido who supposedly was in favour of Lil Kesh grabbing the award made a bold statement which had gone around the media. He threatened to “pull a Kanye” (or Olamide) if his new artiste does not pick up same award. Fast forward to the present, Davido’s new signee Mayorkun does not deserve the Headies ‘Next Rated’ award. That is just exactly the same way I...
